UHPC Custom Gray
Located across from Harlem’s historic Apollo Theater, House of Hoops is a flagship collaboration between Nike and Foot Locker that celebrates basketball culture through architecture.
DEX fabricated both the UHPC rainscreen façade system and interior feature elements. The exterior panels showcase iconic Nike shoe tread patterns—including Air Jordan, Kyrie, and Hyperrev—CNC-milled from digital files supplied by Nike’s design team. Each panel mold was unique, producing large-scale UHPC panels up to 22 ft. long by 8 ft. tall at just 1-1/2 in. thick. The result is a bold, branded façade that ties directly to the sport and the products within.
As a rainscreen system, the UHPC panels not only deliver striking visual impact but also meet the rigorous performance demands of New York City’s climate—including freeze-thaw cycles, moisture management, and long-term durability.
Inside, DEX fabricated individual UHPC wall tiles as thin as 0.5 in., each cast with wood laminate relief to authentically replicate the look and feel of a basketball court floor. Installed at full scale, these lightweight yet durable tiles deliver the texture and material authenticity of real court planks while meeting the performance demands of a high-traffic retail environment.
All pieces were hand-finished and sealed with a hydrophobic penetrating sealer to ensure lasting performance in both interior and exterior conditions. Together, the façade and interior create an immersive retail environment where performance, culture, and design converge.
